Murata Manufacturing Invests 9.7 Billion Yen in New Tome Factory

On May 27, 2026, Murata Manufacturing, the global leader in passive components, announced that its production subsidiary, Tome Murata Manufacturing located in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, has officially commenced construction of a new production facility. The total investment amounts to approximately 9.7 billion yen, with groundbreaking scheduled for the end of May 2026 and completion expected in December 2027.
Tome Murata and the New Facility
Tome Murata Manufacturing was established on February 20, 1998, with a registered capital of 110 million yen. Situated in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, the factory serves as one of Murata's key production bases in the Tohoku region of Japan. Following the 2022 Fukushima earthquake, the facility experienced a temporary suspension due to fire damage but subsequently resumed operations after repairs.
The newly constructed facility will be a four-story steel-frame building with a total floor area of approximately 13,391 square meters and a building area of roughly 3,902 square meters. The new plant will focus on the product development and manufacturing of chip inductors and noise suppression filters, aiming to establish a production system capable of flexibly responding to medium- and long-term demand growth.

Murata's Capacity Expansion Strategy
The Tome new factory project represents a significant component of Murata's global capacity expansion strategy. Previously, Murata invested approximately 3 billion yen in constructing a new production facility in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, dedicated to coil product manufacturing, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2026. Furthermore, the company plans to allocate 680 billion yen in capital expenditures over the next three years to expand production capacity at facilities in Japan, Thailand, and other locations. Murata is also considering large-scale merger and acquisition transactions exceeding 100 billion yen to expand its market share in the inductor and sensor segments.
