Samsung Exynos 2500: The First 3nm GAA Processor Unveiled
2025-06-24
On June 23, 2025, Samsung officially unveiled its latest flagship mobile processor, the Exynos 2500. This marks a significant milestone for Samsung as it is the first smartphone processor to be manufactured using the 3nm GAA (Gate-All-Around) process technology, signifying a major breakthrough in advanced process technology.
Exynos 2500 Chip Specifications
The Exynos 2500 CPU features a 10-core design, with the following configuration:
● 1 Cortex-X925 super-large core with a clock speed of 3.3GHz, delivering robust single-thread performance suitable for high-load tasks such as intensive gaming and professional applications.
● 2 Cortex-A725 large cores with a clock speed of 2.74GHz, balancing performance and power consumption to meet the demands of everyday multitasking.
● 5 Cortex-A725 large cores with a clock speed of 2.36GHz, further enhancing multi-threading capabilities and overall system performance.
● 2 Cortex-A520 small cores with a clock speed of 1.8GHz, focused on low-power tasks to extend device battery life.
The Exynos 2500 also features the fourth-generation Xclipse 950 GPU based on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture. This GPU employs a dual-shader engine structure, upgraded from 6WGP/4RB to 8WGP/8RB, and supports hardware-accelerated instance transformation. With ray tracing enabled, frames per second (FPS) can increase by 28%, offering users a more realistic gaming visual experience.
In addition, the Exynos 2500 is equipped with a 24K MAC NPU (2-GNPU + 2-SNPU) and a DSP for its artificial intelligence engine. The NPU can perform 59 trillion operations per second (TOPS), achieving a 39% improvement in on-device AI performance compared to the previous Exynos 2400. This makes the chip excel in AI-related tasks such as image recognition and voice processing.
Other Features of Exynos 2500
● Memory and Storage: Supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage for faster data read and write speeds.
● Camera: Supports up to 320-megapixel cameras and 8K 30fps video recording and playback, meeting users' needs for high-resolution imaging and high-quality video capture.
● Display: Supports 4K 120Hz displays for a smoother visual experience.
● Wireless Connectivity: Supports Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, and 5G modems with downlink speeds of 9.6Gbps for FR1 and 12.1Gbps for FR2, ensuring fast and stable network connections.
● Satellite Communication: Supports non-terrestrial network (NTN) functionality for low-orbit satellite emergency communication.
Mass Production and Application
The Exynos 2500 is currently in mass production, although its yield is relatively low, which may limit its output. The chip is expected to be first featured in Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7 foldable phone, scheduled for release in July. The launch of the Galaxy Z Flip7 will bring a new foldable experience to users, with the Exynos 2500's powerful performance providing strong support for the device.
Despite the fact that the Exynos 2500 may not outperform competitors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek Dimensity 9400 in some aspects, its advancements in AI performance and ray tracing technology are still highly anticipated. Moreover, the release of the Exynos 2500 demonstrates Samsung's leading position in semiconductor technology and adds new momentum to its competition in the high-end smartphone market. As the chip is widely adopted, users can expect to enjoy better performance and a richer set of features.
