Price Hikes: ST and Infineon Announce Second Round of Increases Within the Year

In late May 2026, the global semiconductor industry once again faced a wave of concentrated price increase notifications. Following Texas Instruments (TI), two European chip giants—STMicroelectronics (ST) and Infineon—announced their second round of price adjustment letters for the year in succession.

ST Implements Second Price Adjustment of the Year

On May 28, 2026, STMicroelectronics, a leader in MCU and power semiconductors, issued a price adjustment notification to customers, announcing a new round of price increases for some products effective June 28. This marks the company's second price adjustment within the year, following the first round announced on March 24 (effective April 26), with only a two-month interval between the two.

This latest notification was signed by Jérôme Roux, President of Sales and Marketing. While the previous adjustment had completed price transmission for covered product lines, sustained inflationary pressures, rising raw material costs, and increasing transportation and labor expenses have placed a significant cost burden on product lines not included in the prior round. ST explicitly stated that this adjustment primarily targets products previously not covered, to ensure operational sustainability.

Infineon Simultaneously Initiates Second Round of Price Hikes

Around the same period, global power semiconductor giant Infineon notified customers on May 26 of plans to implement its second price adjustment of the year for some products, effective July 1. Its first round of increases had already taken effect on April 1, 2026, mainly covering power switches and related chips.

Infineon attributed the price hikes to dual pressures. Firstly, geopolitical tensions have led to a comprehensive increase in costs across the global semiconductor supply chain, covering energy, raw materials, transportation, and services. Secondly, market demand for its product portfolio is rising rapidly, exceeding forecasts made just months ago. Infineon emphasized that despite significantly accelerating investment and capacity expansion, it cannot fully absorb the cost increases internally and must share the burden with customers.

Semiconductor Price Trends

The wave of price hikes is showing a global spreading trend. Texas Instruments plans to implement its second round of increases for the year on power management ICs and MOSFETs effective July 1. Furthermore, companies like NXP and MPS have also followed suit with adjustments. In China, domestic MCU and power device manufacturers such as AMEC, Nationz Technologies, and Jiejie Microelectronics have simultaneously raised prices, with increases ranging between 10% and 20%.
