MediaTek's ASIC Business: Securing Major Clients and Accelerating AI Chip Layout
2025-11-03
MediaTek has made significant progress in its ASIC business, successfully securing projects from multiple major clients. According to MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai, the company has obtained its second ASIC project, which is expected to start contributing to revenue from 2028. This marks an important breakthrough in MediaTek's ASIC layout and further consolidates its position in the AI chip market.
MediaTek's ASIC Business and Market Layout
Rick Tsai pointed out that MediaTek has gained customer recognition within a few years and secured more than one ASIC project. The company expects the AI ASIC market size to reach at least $50 billion in 2028, with MediaTek's target market share being 10% to 15%. This target demonstrates MediaTek's confidence in its technical strength and market competitiveness and reflects its long-term strategic layout in the AI chip field.
Meanwhile, MediaTek is actively negotiating with multiple CSP (Cloud Service Provider) clients and expects to secure more projects in the future. MediaTek is also actively expanding its layout in AI ASIC and data center technologies, investing part of its R & D budget and manpower into data center-related IP and execution capabilities, while strengthening its US team to enhance technical and communication efficiency. In addition, MediaTek is developing several key technologies and IPs, including high-speed interconnect within chips and between racks, silicon photonics, 2-nanometer process, and 3.5D ultra-large-scale packaging chips. These technologies are considered the core foundation for creating higher-end chips after 2027 and will further enhance MediaTek's competitiveness in the AI chip market.
Industry Trends and Future Outlook
With the rapid development of AI technology, the ASIC market is showing a trend of rapid growth. According to guidance from Broadcom and Marvell, the custom chip market size is expected to reach $55 billion in 2028. Leveraging its technical accumulation and market expansion in the ASIC field, MediaTek is expected to secure a significant share in this fast-growing market. In the future, MediaTek will continue to strengthen its cooperation with customers, promote the innovation and development of AI ASIC technology, and provide more competitive solutions for the global AI chip market.
