The MAX3232CPWR is a high-performance, low-power, 3-V to 5.5-V, dual-channel RS-232 line driver and receiver integrated circuit designed for a wide range of applications requiring serial communication.  It features a dual charge-pump circuit that eliminates the need for a bipolar ±12V supply, allowing operation from a single 3-V to 5.5-V supply.  The device includes two line drivers and two line receivers, providing a complete electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and the serial-port connector.
The MAX3232CPWR offers excellent protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD), with ±15-kV ESD protection on all RS-232 bus terminals, including the ground pin.  This feature ensures robustness in environments where ESD is a concern.  The device is capable of operating at data signaling rates up to 250 kbit/s and supports a maximum driver output slew rate of 30 V/µs.  It also features low supply current, typically 300 µA, which helps extend battery life in portable applications.
