TheNCP1079BBP100G​ from onsemi is an enhanced off-line switcher integrating a 700 V avalanche-rugged MOSFET​ with a fixed-frequency current-mode PWM controller​ in a compact 7-lead PDIP-8 package. Designed for universal mains inputs (~85–265 V AC), it targets low-to-medium power flyback converters up to ~15 W in open-frame designs, with a nominal switching frequency of 100 kHz. The controller employs a dynamic self-supply (DSS)​ circuit that eliminates the need for an auxiliary winding during startup, while built-in soft-start, frequency jittering, and skip-cycle operation enable low standby power below 50 mW at no load. Rated for junction temperatures from –40 °C to +125 °C, it suits demanding industrial and appliance environments with robust creepage spacing between high-voltage pins.
Key features include a low RDS(on) of ~2.9 Ω​ (typical at 25 °C) for the integrated 700 V MOSFET, reducing conduction losses. Protections cover auto-recovery short-circuit/overload, adjustable brown-out and overvoltage detection, over-power compensation, and thermal shutdown. Internal slope compensation stabilizes current-mode control, while frequency foldback improves light-load efficiency. The DSS startup draws from the HV drain, with VCC UVLO at ~6.5 V (off) and ~8.4 V (on), transitioning to auxiliary winding supply for lower standby loss.
