DRV8718SQRVJRQ1 smart half‑bridge gate driver
The DRV8718SQRVJRQ1 from Texas Instruments is an AEC‑Q100‑qualified automotive 40V, 8‑channel smart half‑bridge gate driver with wide‑common‑mode inline current‑sense amplifiers, designed to drive multiple brushed‑DC motors, solenoids, or other inductive loads in body control modules, power seats, trunks, liftgates, and sunroof systems. It integrates eight half‑bridge gate drivers, driver power supplies, two current‑shunt amplifiers, and extensive protection monitors in a single 56‑pin VQFN (8×8 mm) package with wettable flanks, significantly reducing system complexity, component count, and PCB area compared with discrete driver solutions. The device operates from 4.9V to 37V (40V abs max) on the load supply and from 3V to 5.5V on the logic supply, and is specified over the –40°C to +125°C ambient temperature range (TJ up to 150°C), making it well‑suited for harsh automotive environments.
Two wide‑common‑mode current‑shunt amplifiers provide inline current sensing that continuously measures motor current even during recirculation windows, and can also be configured for high‑side or low‑side sensing when inline sensing is not required. Amplifier gain is programmable (10, 20, 40, or 80 V/V) to accommodate different sense‑resistor values and dynamic ranges. Comprehensive protection and diagnostics include supply and regulator monitoring, MOSFET VDS overcurrent and VGS gate‑fault monitors, offline open‑load/short‑circuit diagnostics, thermal warning and shutdown, a window watchdog, and a dedicated nFAULT interrupt pin, together enabling robust, fail‑safe operation in safety‑relevant automotive applications.
Alternative automotive gate drivers
● DRV8714SQRVJRQ1: A pin‑compatible 4‑channel half‑bridge gate driver in the same DRV871x‑Q1 family, offering the same smart gate drive, inline current sensing, and protection features with half the number of channels for lower‑pin‑count or lower‑cost multi‑motor systems.
● DRV8703QRHBTQ1: An automotive 47V single‑H‑bridge smart gate driver with SPI and integrated current‑sense amplifier, targeting single‑motor or two‑motor applications that require higher voltage and a compact 32‑pin VQFN footprint.
● DRV8243HQRXYRQ1: A fully integrated 40V, 12A H‑bridge driver with integrated current sensing, IPROPI proportional current output, and rich diagnostics, ideal for applications that prefer an integrated FET stage over external MOSFETs.
