LSF0204YZPR 4-Bit Bidirectional Auto-Biased Voltage Level Translator
LSF0204YZPR is a four-channel bidirectional open-drain voltage level translator designed by Texas Instruments, packaged in ultra-small 12-ball DSBGA chip-scale housing with tape-and-reel delivery, fully RoHS compliant and MSL1 rated for compact high-density SMT assembly in miniaturized electronics. It relies on passive auto-biased architecture without internal power rails for signal translation, supporting voltage translation between 0.8V up to 3.3V on both A and B sides, and operates within a commercial ambient temperature range of 0°C to +85°C. Unlike active level shifters, this device needs pull-up resistors on each signal line to define high-state voltages, enabling seamless bidirectional conversion for I2C, SMBus, GPIO and open-drain communication buses between mismatched low-voltage microcontroller, sensor and memory interfaces with no direction control pin required.
TI Level Shifter Features
This passive four-bit translator eliminates direction control signals for true plug-and-play bidirectional operation, supporting maximum data transfer speeds up to 100Mbps for fast digital signal exchange and 400kHz standard I2C bus communication. It exhibits minimal channel-to-channel skew and low input capacitance to preserve signal integrity at elevated frequencies, features robust ESD protection of ±8kV HBM on all I/O terminals to withstand board assembly and field electrical transients, and maintains high-impedance state when no pull-up voltage is supplied to prevent bus leakage. The tiny DSBGA footprint drastically cuts PCB space compared to leaded packages, and the passive structure delivers ultra-low standby power draw with no supply current consumption for battery-powered portable hardware, while each channel works independently to translate different voltage pairs across the four signal lanes simultaneously.
Alternative translators
● LSF0204DR (TI): Pinout-compatible SOIC-8 packaged 4-channel passive translator with identical electrical specs for larger PCB layouts as package alternative.
● TXB0104DR (TI): Active 4-bit bidirectional level shifter with integrated power rails and no external pull-ups for simplified BOM designs.
● PCA9306DP1 (NXP): Dual-channel I2C dedicated level translator expandable to four lanes for open-drain bus cross-brand second-source substitution.
