ICP-20100 pressure and temperature sensor IC
The ICP-20100 is a high-accuracy, low-power barometric pressure and temperature sensor IC from TDK InvenSense, part of the SmartPressure™ series and built on advanced capacitive MEMS architecture. It is offered in a compact 10-pin LGA package measuring just 2.0mm x 2.0mm x 0.8mm, with a vent hole for precise pressure detection, making it ideal for space-constrained, battery-powered applications such as smartphones, wearables, drones, and IoT devices.
Performance Characteristics
This sensor operates over a pressure range of 30 to 110 kPa (4.35 to 15.95 PSI) with absolute pressure type output and delivers an exceptional 20-bit digital resolution. It achieves a relative accuracy of ±1 Pa and an absolute accuracy of ±20 Pa, enabling height measurement resolution down to approximately 5 cm. The device features programmable oversampling rates (OSR) that allow noise performance to be reduced to as low as 0.5 Pa rms, with additional FIR and IIR digital filters available for enhanced noise suppression and disturbance rejection.
The ICP-20100 integrates a comprehensive signal chain including a capacitive pressure sensor, DSP module for on-chip calibration, analog-to-digital converter (ADC), digital filtering, and a 96-byte FIFO buffer that stores up to 16 pressure-temperature pairs. It supports multiple host interfaces with 12 MHz SPI, 1 MHz I²C, and 12.5 MHz I3C™, providing design flexibility across various system architectures. The device operates from a main supply voltage of 1.8V or 3.3V with an external I/O supply ranging from 1.2V to 3.3V, drawing a typical standby current of just 2.65 µA, making it suitable for always-on applications.
Alternative pressure sensors
For design alternatives, several comparable pressure sensors from other leading manufacturers are available:
1. Bosch BMP390 is a low-power, high-precision barometric pressure sensor offering comparable accuracy with a compact footprint, suitable for portable devices
2. STMicroelectronics LPS22HH is an ultra-compact piezo-resistive pressure sensor with a 24-bit output and embedded temperature compensation for industrial applications
3. TE Connectivity MS5637 is a miniature altimeter sensor with a robust metal cap and I²C interface, ideal for ruggedized consumer devices
4. Infineon DPS310 is a high-accuracy barometric sensor with a unique dual-pressure-sensor principle, offering superior precision over a wide temperature range
5. ICP-10111 is the predecessor to the ICP-20100, providing similar functionality with slightly higher power consumption and lower FIFO buffer capacity.
