P9148NRGI8 Distributed Power Unit
TheP9148NRGI8 is a high-performance Distributed Power Unit (DPU) from Renesas Electronics (formerly IDT), specifically designed to work in conjunction with the P9145/P9180 PMICs to expand output current capability or implement additional power rails. Housed in a compact 12-pin DFN package measuring 3mm × 4mm × 0.9mm, this device operates as a controlled current source fully controlled by the host PMIC via a high-speed 2-wire proprietary digital bus interface. Operating from a single 4.5V to 8.4V input voltage range, it delivers up to 6A peak output current per device/phase at 2MHz switching frequency, with output voltage compliance from 0.75V to 3.6V. The device supports automatic phase shedding, PFM, and LDO modes for optimal efficiency across load conditions, making it ideal for tablet PCs, notebooks, and embedded systems requiring scalable power delivery.
P9148NRGI8 DPU Applications
• Tablet PCs and Notebooks: Scalable power delivery for Intel Bay Trail and Atom processors requiring dynamic current scaling
• Embedded Systems: Flexible power architecture for industrial controllers, IoT gateways, and single-board computers
• Multi-Core SoC Power: Addressing modern multi-core SoC solutions with variety of different skews and dynamic load requirements
• Telecommunications Equipment: Distributed power architecture for base stations, routers, and network infrastructure
• Industrial Automation: Reliable power management for PLCs, motor drives, and process control systems
• Consumer Electronics: High-efficiency power conversion for gaming devices, media players, and smart home equipment
AlternativePower Management ICs
1. P9147NRGI8: Predecessor DPU with similar 6A capability but fewer advanced features (no thermal warning flag, load current monitor, or automatic load-balancing), suitable for cost-sensitive designs not requiring enhanced monitoring.
2. P9180A: Host PMIC companion with integrated triple synchronous buck controllers designed to work with P9148 DPUs for complete multi-rail power management in Intel Bay Trail applications.
3. P9145: Alternative host PMIC with programmable multi-channel architecture supporting P9148 DPUs for embedded and tablet PC power solutions.
4. TPS65086: Texas Instruments' integrated PMIC with dual 3A buck converters for applications preferring monolithic integration over distributed architecture.
5. MAX20303: Maxim Integrated's compact PMIC with multiple buck/boost outputs for wearable and IoT devices requiring ultra-small form factor.
6. ACT8865: Active-Semi's cost-effective 5-channel PMIC for entry-level tablets and embedded systems with moderate power requirements.
