The TLE6240GPAUMA1 is a smart 16-channel low-side switch designed for automotive and industrial applications, featuring embedded protection functions and control via an SPI interface.  It is housed in a PG-DSO-36 package and is suitable for applications such as engine management and powertrain systems, safety and body applications.  The device is RoHS compliant and features a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 150°C.
The TLE6240GPAUMA1 offers comprehensive protection features, including short circuit protection, overtemperature protection, and overvoltage protection.  Each output stage has its own zener clamp to limit voltage when inductive loads are switched off.  The outputs are provided with current limitation, set to a minimum of 1 A for channels 1 to 8 and 3 A for channels 9 to 16.  In case of overload or short to supply, the current is internally limited, and the corresponding diagnosis bit combination is set.  If this leads to an overtemperature condition, a second protection level changes the output into a low duty cycle PWM to prevent critical chip temperatures.
The device supports both serial and parallel control options.  It features a 16-bit serial data input and diagnostic output, with 2 bits per channel for open load and short-to-GND detection.  Additionally, 8 channels can be controlled directly in parallel for PWM applications.  The TLE6240GPAUMA1 also includes a general fault flag and is compatible with 3 V microcontrollers.  The on-resistance (RDS(on)) varies by channel, with typical values ranging from 0.5 Ω to 1.7 Ω at 150°C.
