MAX16904SATB33/V+T Voltage Regulator buck Converter
The MAX16904SATB33/V+T from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a high-voltage, high-frequency synchronous buck converter engineered specifically for the demanding environment of automotive electronics. This monolithic IC integrates both high-side and low-side MOSFET switches to deliver a fixed 3.3V output with a continuous current capability of up to 600mA. It operates from an exceptionally wide input voltage range of 3.5V to 28V, with the ruggedness to withstand transient surges up to 42V, ensuring reliable operation directly from a 12V automotive battery through cold-crank and load-dump events. Operating at a fixed 2.1MHz switching frequency, it minimizes solution size by allowing the use of tiny inductors and capacitors while pushing switching noise above the AM radio band to prevent interference.
A key feature for always-on systems is its ultra-low quiescent current of just 25µA in skip mode, which drastically reduces battery drain during standby. The converter is housed in a compact, thermally efficient 10-TDFN-EP package and includes comprehensive protection features such as overcurrent limit, thermal shutdown, and a Power-Good (PGOD) output flag for system monitoring.
