Marvell to Hike Prices of All Product in January 2025, Amid AI Boom
2024-10-21
Marvell Technology, a leading global semiconductor solutions provider, has recently announced a significant pricing strategy adjustment. Starting from January 1, 2025, Marvell will implement a price increase across its entire product line. This decision is in response to the global surge in demand for accelerated computing and artificial intelligence, as well as unprecedented investments being made throughout the semiconductor supply chain, including the construction of diverse production bases and expansion of production capabilities. Marvell's price increase is taking a leading role in the optical communication industry and may trigger other optical communication chip manufacturers to follow suit with price increases.
Dean Jarnac, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Marvell, emphasized in the price increase notification letter that the company will continue to innovate and increase investment to ensure the provision of cutting-edge products and technologies to its customers. He mentioned that to cope with the increase in investment amounts, Marvell will raise prices for all products and will try to minimize the extent of the price increase to mitigate the impact on customers. He also reminded customers to place orders according to delivery schedules and provide accurate demand forecasts to ensure smooth supply chain operations.
In the third fiscal quarter of the fiscal year 2025, which ended on August 3, 2024, Marvell achieved net revenue of $1.272 billion, which, although down 5.07% year-on-year, increased by 9.65% quarter-on-quarter, exceeding the midpoint of market expectations. Marvell's optical communication products played an important role in this round of price increases, especially in the areas of 800G PAM and 400ZR data center interconnect (DCI), driving annual revenue growth in data centers by more than 90%.
Marvell's price increase is taking a leading role in the optical communication industry and may trigger other optical communication chip manufacturers to follow suit with price increases. However, due to the continuous growth in AI demand, the overall demand in the optical communication industry remains strong, which may partially offset the negative impact of price increases.
In addition, Marvell has shown some fluctuations in its stock price. The stock price return for the most recent quarter was 1.45%. Despite fluctuations, the overall quarterly performance is relatively stable. Marvell's stock price forecast indicates that by the end of 2024, the average price target for MRVL is expected to be $100, but there are also more optimistic prospects that set the price at $124.
In terms of market sentiment, Marvell has received a generally optimistic evaluation from analysts, with 88% of analysts strongly in favor of a "buy" rating, and the "buy" rating has steadily increased over the past three months. This optimistic sentiment is supported by a large institutional holding of 84.20%, indicating strong confidence from major investors.
Marvell's product price increase is not only a response to internal investment growth but also an adaptation to changes in external market demand. With the continuous growth in demand for artificial intelligence and data centers, Marvell's strategy may further consolidate its leadership position in the semiconductor industry and lay the foundation for its future growth.
