TL4242TDRJRQ1 power MOSFET driver
The TL4242TDRJRQ1 is an automotive-grade, dual-channel, high-speed, low-side power MOSFET driver from Texas Instruments. Designed specifically for the demanding automotive environment, it provides robust and efficient gate driving for N-channel MOSFETs in high-current switching applications. Each channel is capable of delivering high peak source and sink currents, enabling fast switching transitions to minimize switching losses. Operating from a supply voltage range compatible with 5V and 3.3V logic systems, it features integrated protection and a small footprint, making it ideal for driving loads like solenoids, motors, and high-power LEDs in body control modules, powertrain systems, and advanced lighting.
This driver features two independent channels, each with a typical peak source current of 2.5A and a sink current of 5A, allowing for optimized turn-on and turn-off control. It offers a fast propagation delay of 20 ns (typical) with excellent channel-to-channel matching, ensuring precise timing in multi-phase or half-bridge configurations. Key protection features include under-voltage lockout (UVLO) on the driver supply and thermal shutdown. Housed in a compact 8-pin SON package with an exposed thermal pad, it is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified for automotive applications and operates over the temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. The inputs are compatible with 3.3V and 5V CMOS/TTL logic levels.
Alternative automotive gate drivers
● Infineon 2EDN752x: A dual-channel low-side gate driver family with similar current ratings, offering enhanced EMC performance and diagnostics for automotive applications.
● ON Semiconductor NCV7518: A single low-side driver with SPI interface for diagnostics and control, targeting smart junction box and body control module applications.
● STMicroelectronics VNQ7140AJ: An intelligent high-side driver with integrated protection and diagnostics, combining driving and switching in a single device for different topologies.
