TheMPU-6050 is a high-performance, low-cost 6-axis MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU) manufactured by InvenSense (now TDK), integrating a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer on a single silicon die, with an embedded Digital Motion Processor (DMP) for on-board motion fusion. Housed in a compact 24-QFN package, it operates from 2.5V to 3.6V, supports I²C communication (up to 400kHz), and delivers precise 16-bit digital output for both sensors. It is widely recognized as a staple in embedded motion tracking due to its balance of performance, size, and affordability.
This sensor offers programmable full-scale ranges: gyroscope (±250, ±500, ±1000, ±2000°/s) and accelerometer (±2g, ±4g, ±8g, ±16g), enabling flexibility for both slow and fast motion detection. The integrated DMP offloads complex motion fusion algorithms, reducing MCU load, while the auxiliary I²C bus supports external magnetometers for 9-axis fusion.
