MAX3747AEUB - 155Mbps to 3.2Gbps Low-Power SFP Limiting Amplifier
The ‌MAX3747AEUB‌ is a multirate, low-power limiting amplifier from Analog Devices (Maxim Integrated) that functions as a data quantizer for OC-3 through OC-48 SONET, Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet optical receivers. Operating from a single 2.97V to 3.63V supply, it accepts a wide range of input voltages and delivers constant-level, current-mode logic (CML) outputs of 800mVp-p with controlled edge speeds, achieving more than 57dB of gain and a bit-error rate below 10^-12 at only a 2mVp-p input amplitude. A programmable loss-of-signal (LOS) detector with a chatter-free threshold and an optional DISABLE function, which combine to implement squelch, sit alongside PECL-compatible inputs. Housed in a 3mm, 10-pin uMAX package, rated -40C to +85C and pin-for-pin compatible with the Micrel SY88993V, it is a compact data-quantizer solution for small-form-factor optical transceiver modules.
Applications
● Gigabit Ethernet SFP/SFF optical transceiver modules.
● 1G/2G Fibre Channel SFP/SFF optical transceiver modules.
● Multirate OC-3 to OC-48 FEC SFP/SFF optical transceiver modules.
● 10G LX4 transceiver modules.
● Data quantizers in SONET and general fiber-optic receivers.
Frequently Asked Questions
‌Q: What is a limiting amplifier used for?‌
A: It quantizes a noisy, amplitude-varying signal from a transimpedance amplifier into a clean, constant-level CML waveform for the receiver.
‌Q: What data rates does it support?‌
A: It is multirate, operating from 155Mbps up to 3.2Gbps, covering OC-3 through OC-48, 1G/2G Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet.
‌Q: Does it need an external reference or clock?‌
A: No. It runs from a single 3.3V supply; only the LOS threshold is set with an external resistor divider.
